Job Description for IRATA L1 Technicians

We’re looking for experienced IRATA Level 1 Rope Access Technicians who take pride in their work, value safety above all else, and want to be part of a supportive, professional team.

Position Purpose
To safely and efficiently perform work at height using industrial rope access techniques in accordance with company procedures, relevant legislation, client requirements, and recognised industry standards. The Rope Access Technician is responsible for delivering high-quality workmanship while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism and teamwork.
About the Role
As part of our team, you’ll perform a wide range of rope access and building maintenance activities across commercial, industrial and residential sites, including:
- Rope access façade inspections, condition reports & defect rectification.
- Building repairs/maintenance and remedial works.
- Painting and protective coating works.
- Waterproofing and leak investigations & Repairs.
- Pressure cleaning, soft washing & window cleaning.
- Installation and removal of signage and fixtures.
- Anchor installation, testing and certification assistance.
- Any other duties within the employee’s competencies and qualifications.
- Working safely in accordance with company procedures and site requirements

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities – Level 2 & 3 Technicians
- Perform rope access activities in accordance with current IRATA certification requirements
- Work safely under the direct supervision of an IRATA Level 3 Technician (or as directed by an authorised supervisor).
- Assist with the setup, inspection, operation and dismantling of rope access systems under supervision.
- Conduct pre-use inspections of personal rope access equipment and report any defects immediately.
- Maintain and care for rope access equipment, tools and PPE to ensure they remain in safe working condition.
- Participate in pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and daily safety briefings.
- Follow all Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and site-specific safety requirements.
- Participating in emergency rescue procedures, when required.
- Comply with all Workplace Health and Safety requirements.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Stop work and notify the supervising Technician if unsafe conditions or practices are identified.
- Wear and correctly use all required PPE.
- Complete assigned work safely, efficiently and to a high standard of quality.
- Assist with general labouring duties, material handling and site preparation as required.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and communicate effectively with team members, clients and site representatives.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn and actively develop rope access and trade skills.
- Maintain a professional attitude, reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic.
- Work cooperatively within a team environment and contribute positively to team culture.
- Represent the company professionally at all times.
- Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to the company’s core values, policies and procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Current IRATA Level 1 certification.
- Full Australian working rights.
- Current Construction White Card.
- Working at Heights certification.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in challenging environments at heights.
- Excellent attention to detail and observation skills.
Highly Regarded
- Valid Australian Drivers Licence.
- Trade experience or apprenticeship (Painting, Waterproofing, Roofing, Building or similar).
- Confined Space Certification.
- EWP Licence.
- Experience in sealing, painting, roofing and render repairs is advantageous.
- Basic hand and power tool experience.
- Desire to progress through the IRATA certification levels.

- Be responsible for the safety and management of the rope access team when supervising and monitor team performance.
- Wear and correctly use all required PPE.
- Monitor work quality and safety.
- Complete work to a high standard with attention to detail.
- Communicate respectfully with clients, colleagues, and management.
- Supervise, mentor & train junior Technicians where required.
- Escalate operational concerns to the supervising Technician or management.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality and a positive attitude.
